Course Overview:

This 3-hour lecture is designed to help play therapists deepen their understanding of theoretical models in play therapy and explore best practices in the field. Participants will identify their personal theoretical models of play therapy, differentiate the stages within the play therapy process from their chosen theoretical lens, and analyze the therapeutic powers of play in practice scenarios. Additionally, the course will address diversity issues and their impact on the play therapy process, as well as the best practices recommended by the Association for Play Therapy, including the use of touch in play therapy.

Learning Objectives:

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

1. Identify and articulate their personal theoretical model of play therapy.

2. Differentiate and explain the stages within the play therapy process, based on their chosen theoretical lens.

3. Analyze and apply the therapeutic powers of play in practical play therapy scenarios.

4. Recognize and address diversity issues and their impact on the play therapy process.

5. Understand and adhere to play therapy best practices, including considerations for touch in play therapy as outlined by the Association for Play Therapy.
